After graduating from Brandeis University with a B.A. in psychology and from Simmons College with a Master in Social Work, Gary began practicing psychotherapy in 1992. In order to continue his therapy practice, he attended law school in the evening, graduating from Suffolk University Law School magna cum laude in 1999 as a member of Transnational Law Review.
As an attorney, he continues to draw on his mental health training and experience. After Massachusetts changed all its guardianship and conservatorship laws, Gary wrote the chapter in the Mental Health volume of the Massachusetts Practice Series explaining the new laws to attorneys. He pioneered the affirmation of health care proxies for mental health issues in Massachusetts, and he has served as chair of the Riverside Community Care Human Rights Committee and as president of the Board of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Massachusetts, MetroWest affiliate.
In 2005, Gary was honored by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of fifteen “rising stars – Massachusetts lawyers who have been members of the bar 10 years or less, but who have already distinguished themselves in some manner and appear poised for even greater things.”
Over the past 25 years Gary has worked supporting families, individuals, and health care institutions regarding mental health law matters.

* While we are happy to have you contact us by email, telephone, land mail or fax, please note that communication alone does not establish an attorney-client relationship. Therefore, it is important that you do not send any personal or confidential information. Such a relationship would only be established were Zalkin Law Firm to agree, in writing, to handle a particular matter.
